Strum Village Board hears concerns about burning leaves

STRUM - The Strum Village Board heard citizens concerns about burning in the village during the Board's meeting back on Sept. 9 at the Civic Center.

Citizen Jim Hallis spoke against burning within village limits due to the smoke, the soot and what he believes is the temptations it could have for residents to also burn their garbage. He asks that if burning will not be banned, better monitoring by village employees and village police be considered. Members of board also discussed a possible ad going into the local paper reminding residents about what can and cannot be in a burn pit.

There was also concern about speeding on CTH. D outside the village limits. Discussion about a speed reduction outside of Village limits. Board member G. Rindal will reach out to Trempealeau County for the requested 35 mph. sign to be placed on CTH. D.

Renovation work to Spangberg Field was discussed by the Board. The poles and light fixtures are here, need to line up, Xcel Energy, Public Works employees and East Hill electric to schedule a date to get them placed and wired. New bleachers need to be ordered and repainting the buildings at the Field is planned. There was also discussion on Woodland Park. A railing project with help from GFS of Osseo is under discussion. There was also discussion of the cutting of weeds and wildflowers in the sidewalk areas.

In other agenda items, the Board approved building permits for Jean and Charles Julson located at 121 Butternut Dr. Brian and Shawn Darling located at 208 Oak St. The Board also unanimously approved the purchase of new radios.
