Charlotte F. Schumacher, 88, Wabasha

Charlotte F. Schumacher, age 88, of Wabasha, died Monday, October 12, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home in Wabasha surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 29, 1926 in Neligh, NE, the daughter of William and Alma (Peterson) Bennett. She grew up in nearby Elgin, NE. Charlotte taught country school prior to her marriage to Delbert Schumacher. They were married June 4, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. Delbert was a dairy farmer. The family moved to Dumfries, rural Wabasha in 1957, where he continued his farming practice. Charlotte helped on the farm and she was a homemaker. She and Delbert moved into Wabasha in 1998 when he retired.
She was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also an active volunteer with St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Auxiliary and she was a past member of the Wabasha Library Board. Charlotte was a kind friend, a thoughtful letter writer and the baker of the world’s best cookies. She loved card playing, bowling and her Monday morning coffee group. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Charlotte was a loving wife to Delbert and a wonderful mother to Sharon (Denis) LaComb, Apple Valley, MN, Roger (Kathy) Schumacher, Eden Prairie, MN, Marla (John) Simmet, Woodbury, MN and Wayne (Barb) Schumacher, New Richmond, WI; a grandmother to 13 and a great-grandmother to 21. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert and her brother, Kenneth Bennett.
A funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 2pm at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg with the Reverend Monsignor Robert Meyer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Felix Cemetery in Wabasha. Casket bearers will be Brita, April and Rebecca Schumacher, Amy LaComb, Melanie McMahon, Amber, Kim and Jennie Poppovich and Lynsey Simmet. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Friday from 4-7pm with a prayer service at 7pm and they may call at the church on Saturday one hour before the Mass.
