Charlotte Mae (Ness) Arens

Charlotte Mae (Ness) Arens, 94, of Kellogg, MN, died Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Charlotte was born in Taylor County, Thorp, Wisconsin, on March 13, 1930, to the late William and Ovedia (Johnson) Ness. The family moved to Kellogg when she was young. Charlotte graduated from Kellogg High School in 1947 as Salutatorian of her class.

On June 20, 1950, Charlotte married Bob (John R.) Arens at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg. They initially lived in Hopkins before moving to Kellogg in 1962.

Charlotte was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg, the CCW (Council of Catholic Women), the St. Agnes Quilting Ladies Group, and the Catholic Foresters. She was a charter member of the Kellogg American Legion Auxiliary Post #546 from 1947 until June 2023 (76 years) when Post #546 disbanded, at which time Charlotte joined the Minneapolis Auxiliary. She also proudly served as an Election Judge.

Charlotte was an excellent seamstress and quilter. Each grandchild received one of grandma’s quilts. She looked forward to morning walks with her close lady friends followed by a cup of coffee at a local restaurant. She was a founding member of the Kellogg Ladies’ Birthday Club. For years, Charlotte enjoyed her almost daily phone chats with her sister Adelaide.

Charlotte was very proud of and enjoyed being around her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Charlotte is survived by her children: Judi (Jeff) Morgan, Rochester; Dave (Julie) Arens, Rochester; Steve (Karen) Arens, Kellogg; Mary (Eric) Arens, Goodhue; Roger Arens (and wife, Patti Hodgman), Claremont; grandchildren: Erik Morgan, Southold, NY; Brenda (Sam) Passe, Lake City; Adam (Rebecca) Arens, St. Charles; Brad (Andrea) Arens, Zumbrota; Maria (Damian) Morgan-Bathke, La Crosse, WI; Jerry Agin, Kellogg; and Savannah (James) Koenig, Cottage Grove; and great-grandchildren: Riley, Anna, Adriana, Allie, Caleb, Thomas, Kenzie, Madeleine, Sophia, Autumn, Maddie & Mari O., Dylan, Madison and Taylor K., Denver, Sienna, Maren and Paycen; sister-in-law: Janice Arens, Kellogg: nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; daughter, Karen Mary Arens; sisters, Carol Dinneen, Adelaide Binner, Eleanore Arens; brothers, Wayne Ness, Edwin (infant); brothers-in-law, Franklin “Bub” Binner, Odell "Buzz" Arens, William "Bill" Arens, Richard “Dick” Arens, Orville Dittrich, William Graner, Dan Dinneen; and sisters-in-law, Lillian Arens, Margaret "Betty" Dittrich, Bonnie Ness, Mary Ness, Elinor Graner.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg, Minnesota, with her great-nephew The Very Reverend Patrick Odell Arens officiating. Casket bearers were Adam Arens, Brad Arens, Jerry Agin, Sam Passe, Riley Passe, and Damian Morgan-Bathke. Interment was at St. Agnes Cemetery. Visitation was held at St. Agnes Church one hour (10:00 a.m.) prior to the church service.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Agnes Cemetery Fund (Kellogg, MN), or a charity of your choice.
