Dick Wilson

Dick Wilson, 92 of Wabasha, died Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Gundersen - St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center, Wabasha. 
  Dick was born January 25, 1931, in Theilman, MN to Elizabeth (Heil) and Alfred Wilson. On June 21, 1951, he married Valoris (Val) Schmidlin at Grace Lutheran Church, Nelson, WI and together they raised three children:  Dawn, Cheri, and Danny in Wabasha.
  Dick was employed by Florin Dairy for 42 years and many knew him as their milkman.  He retired in 1992.  He and Val enjoyed traveling during their retirement years until she suffered a stroke in 1999.  Val passed away in 2008.
Additionally, he joined the Army Reserves in 1949 and proudly served for 12 years.
Dick lived in his own home until 2022.  He enjoyed flower gardening and also raised a bumper crop of tomatoes each year for juice canning.  Until recent years, Dick often fished for white bass and walleye, and was very quick with a fillet knife.  He was well known for his homemade cookies and had many happy recipients.  Dick was a Twins and Cubs baseball fan and followed the Minnesota Vikings.  In his later years, he made several trips to Berlin, Germany to visit his grandson and family.
Dick was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wabasha. 
  He is survived by his children: daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn Wilson and John Hardy, St. Paul, MN, Cheri and Ray Ratz, Plainview, MN; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Betty Wilson, Wabasha, MN; grandson, Jimmy (Anja) McDonough, Berlin, Germany; twin great-grandchildren:  Leo and Charlotte; a brother Bill (Joy) Wilson, a sister-in-law Inez Wilson, and many nieces and nephews. 
  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Val; and 12 siblings.    
  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2023, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wabasha with Reverend David G. Peters officiating. Interment will be in Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, WI.
  Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha and beginning at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. 
 Memorials can be directed to St Elizabeth Community Development Foundation or Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wabasha.
