Donald J. Earney, 88, Pepin

 Donald J. Earney, age 88, of Pepin, died Monday, March 14, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Wabasha with his loving family at his side. He was born November 9, 1927 in Red Wing, the son of Donald J. and Evelyn (Johnson) Earney, Sr. He grew up in the Bay City area and graduated from Ellsworth High School. He began his career with the CB&Q railroad at the age of 15 as a section hand. He then served in the U. S. Army Air Force from 1946-1949, serving in Greenland. After discharge he returned to the Bay City area where he continued his career with the railroad. He was promoted to steel gang foreman and then to section foreman, working in Potosi, WI for five years. He then moved back home to Pepin and was promoted to track supervisor where he was responsible for track from La Crosse to St. Paul. Don retired in 1983 from the BNSF railroad.
 He married Marilyn Hunter October 25, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Red Wing. He was a member of the Bay City American Legion Post #357, the Pepin Sportsman’s Club and the Pepin Railroad Museum. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and trap shooting. He and Marilyn also enjoyed extensive travel. Don was an avid Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger fan and earlier a Milwaukee Braves fan. He also enjoyed watching Bay City Bomber baseball games.
 Don is survived by his wife, Marilyn Earney, Pepin, WI; their four children and their spouses, Susan and Steve Roffler, Pepin, WI, Terri and Jerry Marcks, Savage, MN, Joe and Mary Earney, De Pere, WI, Jim and Julie Earney, Chico, CA; eight grandchildren, Ashley and Holly Roffler, Hunter and Kelsey Marcks, Regan and Chayse Earney, and Jared and Jack Earney; brother and sisters-in-law, Glen and Donna Earney, Red Wing, MN, Faye Earney, Bay City, WI; sisters, Mary Earney, Stilwell, KS, Vicki Lee, Canyon Lake, TX; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Evelyn Earney and one brother, Bob Earney.
 A time to come together and celebrate Don’s life will be held at the Sportsman’s Club in Pepin on Saturday, April 16th from 2-5pm. Memorials are preferred to the Pepin Area Community Club (PACC) for flower baskets or to St. Elizabeth’s Community Development Foundation, 1200 5th Grant Blvd. W. Wabasha, MN 55981.
