Dorothy M. Walter
Dorothy M. Walter, 94 of Wabasha, passed away peacefully Friday, December 27, 2024, at Gundersen – St. Elizabeth Health Care Center, Wabasha, MN. Dorothy Marie was born August 23, 1930, in Olivia, MN to Hazel (Kelly) and Joseph Haubrich. She graduated from Danube High School, Danube, MN and from the Minneapolis Business School. On August 8, 1953 she married Wallace J. Walter in Olivia and together they raised six children: Jeffery, Kathryn, Thomas, Mark, John and James. Wallace passed away June 24, 2001. Dorothy was a faithful member of Saint Felix Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. While her primary role was that of wife, mother and homemaker, she had several part-time jobs including with the Wabasha Kellogg School District and St. Felix Elementary school. Later she worked for Uni- Patch in Wabasha, learning and implementing computer technology for the company. Dorothy M. Walter Dorothy always enjoyed visiting with friends and family, getting to know them better and sparking lively conversation. She played bridge and golf, enjoyed puzzles and games, and volunteered all she could. She never stopped helping and caring for all her family. She is survived by four sons: Jeffery (Kathy) Walter; Thomas (Carol Bell) Walter; John (Melissa) Walter; and James (Michelle) Walter; nine grandchildren: Laura (Aaron) Kropp; Lisa (Seth) Brown; Ashley (Ben) Drietz; Brooke (Josh) Irhke; Meghan (Matt) Anderson; Jack Walter; Gabe Walter; Anna Walter; Michael (Anna) Drouches; nine great grandchildren; and she was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wallace; a daughter Kathryn Nelson and son Mark Walter. Funeral Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2025, at St. Felix Catholic Church, Wabasha with Reverend Thomas Loomis officiating. Interment will follow at St. Felix Cemetery, Wabasha. Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday, January 2 at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will be an additional visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Felix Catholic Church.
