Eugene Arthur (Gene) Marburger

Eugene Arthur (Gene) Marburger, age 83, of Wabasha, MN and formerly of Rochester, MN passed away Wednesday August 11, 2021. Born May 18, 1938, in Racine, MN Gene moved from the family farm to Rochester with his family. He graduated from Rochester High School and attended Rochester Community College where he received his degree in Engineering Technology in 1958. After college Gene enlisted in the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1966. Gene proudly worked as a Land Surveyor for the MN Department of Transportation for 40 years, retiring in 1999.

Gene was a lifelong athlete, playing basketball through high school and college. As an adult, Gene played in many softball leagues in Rochester, often winning the league and tournament championship games. His softball teammates became like family, playing many years together and venturing into other sports such as volleyball and golf through the years. Gene shared his time and talents by coaching youth football and baseball with his son. Gene stayed active with his family during every season, joining the Friendship Riders snowmobile club and traveling through MN and WI to find the best trails, camping at Ponderosa Campground for many years before buying a cabin in Deer Cove, and boating with family and friends on the Mississippi River. Gene loved to travel and had many fun adventures traveling across the US with Carol and many friends/family.

Gene is survived by his 3 children: Carla (Gary) Alink of Austin, MN; Leslie (Tom) Vitale of Sun Prairie, WI; Brad (Jackie) Marburger of Woodbury, MN and 5 grandchildren: Nic (Madeleine) Martini of Stoughton, WI; Madison Martini (Ryan Dreifuerst) of Austin, TX; Lizzie Vitale of Waukesha, WI; Ben Marburger of Woodbury, MN; Meg Marburger of Woodbury, MN.
Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Marburger in 2005, and his parents and brother.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, MN on Thursday, September 2, 2021, from 4-7 PM. Donations can be made in Gene’s memory to the American Heart Association.
