Everett R. Johnson, 85, Kellogg

 Everett R. Johnson, age 85, of Kellogg, died unexpectedly at Treasure Island Casino on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. He was born August 28, 1933 in Altura, MN, the son of Nels and Helen (Baldwin) Johnson. After graduating from high school he honorably served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War, serving from 1951-1955. After returning home from the service Everett worked several years at Danckwart Feed and Grain in Kellogg and then three years at Gould Battery in Lake City. He then worked as a custodian for seventeen years at Wabasha –Kellogg School, retiring in 1998. He also worked part-time for the City of Kellogg. He was united in marriage to Donna-Jean Johnson October 25, 1958 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wabasha. She died May 25, 2001.
 Everett was a member of Kellogg United Methodist Church, a member of the Kellogg Lions Club and a life member of the Kellogg American Legion Post #546. In May of this year he was a member of the Honor Flight to Washington, DC, honoring those veterans who served our country with bravery and valor. His hobbies and interests included fishing, golfing, and playing cards with his many friends, woodworking and visiting casinos.
 He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Bill and Sharon Johnson, Centerville, WI, Robert and Maria Johnson, Wabasha, MN, Cheryl and Kent Nymann, Plainview, MN; six grandchildren, Zackariah (Anna) Johnson, Mary (Chris) McDaniel, and Christine (Jon) Dodd, Alexis Johnson and Adam and Marie Nymann; five great-grandchildren, Emmy, Ellie, Darren, Athens and Leo; brother and sister-in-law, Harold ‘Shorty’ and Louise Johnson, Kellogg, MN; sister, Lois Sletten, Wabasha, MN; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his special friend and companion, Peg Bauernfeind, Wabasha, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna-Jean, parents, Nels and Helen Johnson, brother, Butch Johnson, and sister, Luella Halvorson.
 A memorial service celebrating Everett’s life will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg with Pastor Cooper Wiggen officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. Military rites will be performed by the Kellogg American Legion Post #546, the Wabasha American Legion Post #50, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 and active members of the United States Navy. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 4-8pm and at St. Agnes Church on Thursday one hour before the service. Memorials are preferred to Heartland Hospice or to Kellogg United Methodist Church. The Abbott Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
