Gerald 'Jerry' Link
The Celebration of Life Gathering for Gerald “Jerry” Link was from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11th, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel in Lake City.
Jerry died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, January 5, 2015.
Gerald William Link was born March 11, 1948 in Lake City to Allan and Arlene (Rademacher) Link. He grew up in Lake City and attended McCahill School until the 8th grade, and then attended Lincoln High School graduating in 1966. Jerry married JoAnn Grobe on September 7, 1968 in Lake City.
Jerry was drafted into the US Army in March 1968 and served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in March of 1970. He returned to Lake City and was employed at Lake City Nursery for many years until its closing. Jerry then worked at Jewell Nurseries for many years after that. In September of 1996 he started his own business, The Flower Cottage in Lake City. After selling the floral shop, he worked as a security guard at the Lake City Marina.
Jerry served on the Lake City Tree Board for 7 years, and the Streets and Parks Commission for 3 additional years. He was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, and a lifetime member of the Lake City VFW Post #8729.
Jerry enjoyed playing softball, going hunting, boating, waterskiing, driving his corvette, and spending time with his family and friends.
Jerry is survived by his wife, JoAnn Link of Lake City; daughter, Nicole (Douglas) Thornton of Henderson, NV; son, Josh (Jessica) Link of Apple Valley; grandchildren, Noella and Owen Link; his mother, Arlene Link of Lake City; brother, Jim Link of Rochester; sisters, Judy (Lowell) Harrison of Lexington, SC, Janet (Tom) Kirtz of Burnsville, and Joan (John) Schaffer of Red Wing. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, and brother, John.
Family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.
