Gordon Charles Schacht
Gordon Charles Schacht, 83, of Wabasha and formerly of Lake City and Rochester, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, at St. Elizabeth’s – Gunderson Health Care Center in Wabasha. He was born on February 9, 1938, in Hammond to Edward & Emma (Mickow) Schacht. He was raised in Lake City where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1956. He was a member of the 544th Ordinance Division, Department of the Army in Wabasha.
Gordie went to work at IBM shortly after graduating from high school and remained there until he retired after 37 years of service. He married Eunice Goihl on October 7, 1961, together they raised two daughters, Kaemee and Laura, and they were happily married until her death in 1995. Gordie married again later to Marianne Malles of Wabasha. He was a stepfather to her three children, Brenda Carrels, Lance Binner and Scott Binner.
Gordie was always dedicated to his family, never missing an opportunity to coach, attend recitals, or cheer his daughters on in their many team efforts. Gordie loved the Minnesota Vikings, his annual deer hunting trips and was an avid golfer. He was always a good friend, neighbor, and coworker. He also enjoyed a trip to Hawaii every couple of years as well.
Gordie is survived by his wife, Marianne Schacht of Wabasha; his two daughters, Laura (Marty) Weintraub of Duluth, and Kaemee Schacht of Chatfield; a stepdaughter, Brenda (Timothy ) Carrels of Wabasha, and two stepsons, Lance (Stephanie) Binner of Wabasha, and Scott (Heather) Binner of Dodge Center; grandchildren, Shea Jech, Colin Jech, and Lee and Sylvie Weintraub; step grandchildren, Abbie and Lewis Carrels, Nicole and Annie Binner, Alyssa, Andrew, and Annaka Binner; brothers, Wayne (Sonia) Schacht of Rochester, Ronald (Jana) Schacht of Salida, CA, and Howard (Barbara) Schacht of Minneapolis; and a sister, Dianna Oskey of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and a sister Shirley.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 20, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Matthew Fasnacht officiating. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City with military rites by the Lake City American Legion Post #110 and Lake City VFW Post #8729.
