James Allen Christoffer, 48, Red Wing

James Allen Christoffer, 48, of Red Wing and formerly of Wabasha, died unexpectedly, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Red Wing. He was born September 8, 1967, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Richard and Donna (Lauritsen) Christoffer. In 1986 he graduated from Spirit Lake High School, then went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa with a business degree. He lived in Minneapolis where he worked for Wells Fargo Mortgage. On October 2, 1999 he was united in marriage to Jennifer Satory in Minnetonka, MN. In 2000, Jim and Jennifer chose Wabasha to build his business as a financial advisor with Edward Jones and start their family. While maintaining his office, the family moved to Red Wing in 2013. He was an avid golfer and had belonged to The Bluffs at Coffee Mill Golf Course. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing and bird hunting with his dog, Lily. He was a proud and committed dance dad to his daughter, Cora, rarely missing a performance. Jim was involved with the Wabasha Rotary Club and a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He was a devoted and supportive husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, always putting others first. Three years ago he was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease. His perspective on life changed—the important things such as family and friends and his concern for others never wavered. His desire was to guide Cora to become a strong, independent woman. His past experiences were greatly cherished. Jim’s priority was to be as healthy as possible and adjust to his new way of life. We believed, as did Jim, that there would be many more years to be shared.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer and daughter Cora, both of Red Wing; parents, Richard and Donna Christoffer of Spirit Lake, IA; brother, Jeff (Linda) and daughters Jordan and Alissa of Spirit Lake, IA; sister, Julie (Leland) Leichtnam and daughters Brooklyn, Sydney and Gracelyn of Fairmont, MN; brother, Jayson and daughters Hannah, Alexa, and Samantha of Wilmar, MN; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 20 at 11 a.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing with Reverend Dave Knox officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated in memory of Jim for the research to find a cure for Churg Strauss Syndrome.
