James S. Schmitt, 77, formerly of Wabasha

James S. Schmitt, age 77 of Shoreview, MN and formerly of Wabasha, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018.
James Stephen was born August 7, 1941, in Sparta, WI, to James J. and Helen T. (Szelcz) Schmitt. He graduated from St. Felix High School and Winona Technical College. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1959 to 1962. He was a long-time mechanic for Northwest Airlines. He had a love of tools, building and fixing things, and working in the yard.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; two sons: Chris (Angie) Schmitt and Jon (Jennifer) Berger; three grandchildren: Anabelle, Lilah, and Clara; sisters: Bonnie and Cindy; brothers: Gary and Terry (Vickie); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dave.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018, at St. Felix Catholic Church, Wabasha, MN with Rev. Gregory Parrott officiating. Interment was at St. Felix Cemetery, Wabasha. Military rites were performed by the Wabasha American Legion Post #50, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 and the MNARNG.
Visitation was one hour prior to mass at church.
