Janice Nadine Nelsen, Wabasha
Janice Nadine Nelsen passed away on July 21, 2018 surrounded by family. Janice was born March 11, 1937 to Geraldine and John Magilton. Much of her childhood was spent in Vancouver, WA until her family moved to Iowa. She graduated from Rockford, IA High School where she had excelled as an athlete playing basketball, and also as a student, only blowing up the chemistry lab once and still getting an A.
She attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing and after graduating became a stewardess. She enjoyed telling stories of her days working in first class where she met people like Marilyn Monroe, Alfred Hitchcock and Jimmy Stewart, who by her account was extremely handsome. She left the skies and began working as a registered nurse, settling in Charles City, Iowa. Over the years she also became a Director of Nursing, and worked quality control for various hospitals and nursing homes in Iowa, California, Oregon, and finally, Wabasha, Minnesota, where she settled with her husband, Fred Nelsen. There she learned to enjoy fishing and relaxing on the river.
In more recent years, when Janice wasn’t busy holding daily court at her kitchen counter with various friends and family (promptly at 3 p.m.), she could be seen walking her beloved Bassett Hound, Lucky, around town or at the park.. often followed by her two cats in single file.
Janice is survived by her son, Aaron Lamansky (Dana) daughter, Carole Kay Twyman, step daughter, Ann Weaklen, unofficial adopted son, Peter Crosbie, grandchildren, Morghan, Taelor, Jackson, Brady, Zoie, Mackenzie, and Mason, brother Mike Magilton, sister Carole Magilton, 4 great grandchildren. And her cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Sandra Jacobson, her daughter, LaRee Lamansky, and her soulmate, Fred Nelsen.
Janice did not wish to have a funeral or celebration of life. Instead, feel free to raise a glass in the air for her at 3 p.m. on any given day.
