Jerry Lee Wyatt
Jerry Lee Wyatt, 82, of Reads Landing, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born on April 19, 1942, to Howard and Marcella Wyatt in Riceville, Iowa where he spent all of his school age years. Shortly after graduation from high school, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Ackerman. Together they raised four daughters: Sherri (Kelly) Murphy, Kristene (Dave) Wallerich, Valerie (Rob) Mathias, and Michelle Schuth.
Jerry and Dorothy moved to Reads Landing, Minnesota in 1976. They owned and operated Wyatt’s Landing, in Reads Landing, until 1986. During this time Jerry also built a successful business doing roofing, siding, and gutters.
After retirement, Jerry spent much of his time on the river fishing. Most would agree he was one of the best fishermen in the area. His love of the outdoors didn’t stop with fishing. Jerry also enjoyed working on various projects in his garage. He labored tirelessly over his garden and many fruit trees. Jerry was always most proud of his crop of onions and later learned to perfect Dorothy’s homemade apple pies. His sunshine pickles were a family favorite.
Jerry was a homebody and liked nothing more than sharing a cup of coffee around the kitchen table with whoever stopped to visit. But what Jerry loved most, and was most proud of, was his family. He loved them fiercely. Nothing made him happier than from his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He always got his phone out and wanted to take a picture of him with whichever grandchild was visiting.
Jerry is survived by 10 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren: Jason (Courtney) Dove and their children Kaiden, Elizabeth, Julian, Logan, and Charleigh; Kyle (Shameika) Dove and their children Kendyl, Merrick, Elijah, Brecket, Maverick, Brooklyn, and Remi; Connor Murphy; Matthew (Samantha) Wallerich and their children Landyn, Norah, and Paige; Kara (Erich) Firzlaff and their children Ahna and Haylee; Melissa (Jason) Lawler and their children Clare and Grace; Angela Schuth and her children Lilly, Sophie, and Nash; Kirsten (Ryan) Schuth and their children Emma and Will; Bryce Bohl; and Olyvia Bohl.
Jerry is also survived by sisters Hazel Smith, Mary Ann (Larry) Sweeney and brothers Tom (Karen) Wyatt, Benny (Diane) Wyatt and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded by his wife Dorothy; his parents Howard and Marcella Wyatt; son-in-law Merlin “Pidge” Dove; grandson Brandon J. Mathias; an infant great grandson Wyatt B. Lawler; a brother Peter Wyatt; a sister-in-law Nancy Wyatt; a brother-in-law Ed Smith; and a nephew Kyle Wyatt.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the VFW in Wabasha, Minnesota from 12:00 – 2:30 p.m. All are welcome.
When I Go
When I go
don’t learn to live without me
just learn to live with my love
in a different way.
And if you need to see me
close your eyes
or look in your shadow
when the sun shines
I’m there.
Sit with me in the quiet and you will know
that I did not leave
There is no leaving when a soul is blended with another.
When I go
don’t learn to live without me
just learn to look for me in the moment.
I will be there.
