John S. Nelson

John S. Nelson, 73 of Minneiska, MN passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Emplify – St. Elizabeth Health Care Center, Wabasha. He passed peacefully after a brief illness with his son and daughter by his side.
John Sydney was born October 28, 1951, in Minneiska to Maureen (Holland) and Sydney Nelson. He graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1969. After high school he served in the Army as a military policeman stationed in Europe. John graduated from the accounting program at the Winona Area Technical Institute in 1975. John was employed by the United States Post Office like his mother, father and grandfather before him.
He found joy in farming, softball, golf and socializing with the hometown people. He was John S. Nelson a die-hard fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings. He is survived by his two children: Alison McDonnell and Dustin Nelson; three grandsons: Owen, August and Evan; two sisters: Micki (J.R.) Miller and Julie (Dave) Arens; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Stephen Nelson.
Funeral Liturgy will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Minneiska with military honors provided by Wabasha American Legion Post #50 and Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Thursday, Nov.6 at the funeral home.
