The funeral service for Kenneth Holst was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, at Peace United Methodist Church in rural Elgin/Plainview, with Pastor Cheryl Jean Nymann officiating. Burial was in the Elgin Cemetery in Elgin, with Military Rites by Elgin American Legion Post #573 and Kellogg American Legion Post #546.
Kenneth Frederick Holst, 89, of Plainview, and formerly of Kellogg, passed away Tuesday morning, March 6, 2018 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview. He was born August 11, 1928 in Theilman, to George and Ruth (McCracken) Holst. He attended Viola County School for 8 years, and then went to Elgin school for one year. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. On January 24, 1953 he married Dorothy Anderson at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester.
Kenneth farmed in the Elgin/Viola area until 1968 when they moved to rural Kellogg where he continued to farm. Kenneth loved horses and was a member of the Plainview Elgin Riders Saddle Club and the Minnesota Trail Riders Association. He was a former member and Commander of the Elgin American Legion, and a member of the Kellogg American Legion. Kenneth was a member of Peace United Methodist Church.
Kenneth is survived by his children, Jary (Celene) Holst of Kellogg, Jayne (Gary) Roth of Plainview, and Judy (Joe) Reinhardt of Kellogg; nine grandchildren, Kristi Roth, Tanner & Kallie Reinhardt, Jacob (Brittany), Isaac (Courtney), Abigail, Natalie, Ashley and Beth Holst; a sister, Jean Raymond of Hudson, WI and a brother, Roy Holst of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant daughter, and one sister, Ruby Law.
Friends and family visited from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9 at Schleicher Funeral Homes, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
