LaVerne E. ‘Verne’ Ramsey, 84, Wabasha

 LaVerne E. “Verne” Ramsey, age 84, of Wabasha, died Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy bout with cancer. He was born November 28, 1931 in Lanesboro, MN, the son of Melvin and Grace (Rogers) Ramsey. After moving to Rochester, Verne graduated from Rochester High School. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in the Korean War. He married Jean Hanson in 1950. They later divorced. He then married Ginger Peterson and they later divorced. Verne married Neva Stotesbery Hagen May 14, 1983 at Rochester Bethel Lutheran Church. They enjoyed 33 years of marriage together.
 Verne worked several years for the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He then began his career as a claims adjustor for State Farm Insurance which brought him to Racine, Wisconsin and then to Mankato, Minnesota where he retired in 1992. The couple moved to Wabasha in 1993.
 He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Wabasha and the Wabasha American Legion Post #50 and the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086. He enjoyed playing golf in the Coffee Mill senior golf league. He was also a volunteer driver for the Meals on Wheels program. Verne and Neva enjoyed many winters in Arizona golfing, playing cards, playing pool and dancing.
 Verne is survived by his wife, Neva Ramsey, Wabasha, MN; children, Barb (Joe) Lipari, Racine, WI, Larry Ramsey, Rochester, MN, Kim (Dave) Anderson, Racine, WI, Stefanie Chase, Arlington, VA, Linda (Greg) Bearden, Zumbro Falls, MN, Randy (Cyndee) Hagen, Elgin, MN, Leanne (Eric) Brevig, Rochester, MN; eleven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Muriel Marsteller, Florence, AZ, Gloria Stillman, Fallon, NV, Sharon (Paul) Finley, Rochester, MN, Carol (Wayne) Stillman, Rochester, MN, Diane (Mike) Deobald, Lake City, MN; brother, Wallace Ramsey, Hillsboro, OR; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Grace Ramsey.
 A memorial service was held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 10:30am at Faith Lutheran Church in Wabasha with Pastor Joshua Kestner officiating. Military rites were performed by the Wabasha American Legion Post #50, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 and the MNARNG Honor Guard. Interment followed at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Family and friends called at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Thursday from 5-7pm and at the church on Friday one hour before the service. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha was in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
