Marcella C. Marcou, 91, Wabasha

Marcella C. Marcou, age 91, of Wabasha, died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha. She was born November 9, 1926 in Nelson, WI, the daughter of Bert and Ethel (Anderson) Smeltzer. She attended school in Nelson. She was united in marriage to Everett Marcou November 19, 1947 in Wabasha. Everett was a realtor and businessman in Wabasha and together he and Marcella owned and operated the Montgomery Wards catalog business on Main Street in Wabasha for several years. Later Marcella worked as an inspector for Lucas Body in Winona. She retired in October, 1998. Everett died December 31, 2014.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Wabasha. She was also a member of the Wabasha American Legion Auxiliary Post #50, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Auxiliary #4086, the Eastern Star, and the United Auto Workers Union. Her interests included music and dancing, playing bingo and in her younger years she liked making quilts. Her easy going nature, her sense of humor and her general positive outlook on life will be missed by all who knew her.
Marcella is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Ron and Fran Marcou, Gatlinburg, TN, Blaine Marcou, Wabasha, MN; daughter, Jean Roth, Zumbrota, MN; nine grandchildren, Kara (Shawn) Corpman, Andrew Marcou, Kristina (Paul) Rueff, Erin (Tim) Wharton, Charles and Elizabeth MacBrine, Jill (Bob) Huebert, Matt and Brandon (Lacey) Roth; 12 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Dorothy Smeltzer, Aitkin, MN; sister, Marian Fitzgerald, Minneapolis, MN; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, daughter, JoAnn MacBrine, grandson, Alex Marcou, sisters and brothers-in-law, Arvilla and Richard Kuhn, Evelyn and Paul Brantner and Jerry Fitzgerald and brother and sister-in-law, Wilmer and Arlene Smeltzer.
 A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11:00am at the Wabasha United Church of Christ with the Reverend James Clausen officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Wabasha. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home on Friday from 4-7pm and one hour before the service at the church. The children extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center for the love, care and devotion shown to their mother. Blessings to you all.
