Margaret M. ‘Marne’ Lager, 84, Wabasha

Margaret M. “Marne” Lager, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2020, with her family by her side. She was born December 25, 1935 to her parents Andrew and Mary (Theisman) Dick. She attended school for 8 years until she started her job at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where she worked for four and half years. On April 30, 1955 Marne married Harry C. Lager at Saint Felix Church in Wabasha, MN and were wed for 59 years. Together they had four children, Frank, Anne, Marie, and Harry “Buddy”. She then worked at Wabasha public school as an assistant cook for 17 years.
Marne was a past Auxiliary member of the Wabasha Fire Department and American Legion, Post #50. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cleaning, fishing, wrestling, casino trips, polka dancing, traveling, driving through town on her golf cart, and had a loving obsession with raccoons. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving family and friends.
Marne was survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Anne (Joe) Brunette of Eagan, MN, Marie (Jim) Kurtz of Mechanicsville, MD, and son and daughter-in-law Harry “Buddy” J. (Jean) Lager of Wabasha, MN; seven grandchildren, Joe Brunette, Chris Brunette, Nikki (Chris) Simpson, Jason (Ashley) Kurtz, Angela Lager, Alisha Lager, and Ryan Lager; six great-grandchildren Jozi and Trent Brunette, Austin “AJ” and Stephen Simpson and Madilyn and Audrey Kurtz; brother Edward (Shirley) Dick of Eagan, MN, sisters-in law Sharon Dick, Shirley Lager, Eleanore Dick, and Lucille Dick; several nieces/nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry C. Lager, son Frank Lager; brothers John Dick, Robert Dick, Leo Dick, Ervin Dick, Dennis Dick, Tom Dick, Donald “Swede” Dick, and; sisters Vera Hielscher and Fran (Dick) Lager; sisters-in-law Lucille (Lager) Dick, Mary Lager, Margaret Lager, Marie Lager, Janice Lager, and Fran (Sexton) Dick; brothers-in-law Edward Lager, Vincent Lager, Bernard Lager, and Leo Lager.
A funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2020, at St. Felix Catholic Church. Interment will be at St. Felix Cemetery. Casket bearers are grandchildren Joe Brunette, Chris Brunette, Nikki Simpson, Jason Kurtz, Alisha and Ryan Lager, and Kristopher Rosendale (Nephew). Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home on Wednesday August 26, 2020 from 4-7 p.m. and beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church on Thursday.
