Marjorie R. Lifto, 96, Wabasha
Marjorie R. Lifto, age 96, of Wabasha, died Saturday, August 24, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home in Wabasha. She was born December 11, 1922 in Ripley Township of Dodge County, Minnesota, the daughter of Dennis and Ruth (Holcomb) Leighton. She married Robert Lifto August 16, 1940 in Rochester. He was a union pipefitter and Marge was a homemaker. They moved to Reads Landing from Rochester in 1963. He died February 6, 2003.
Marge was a member of the Wabasha County Historical Society and a past member of the Wabasha Izaak Walton League. She was a very kind and considerate woman who saw the good in everyone. She enjoyed sewing, decorating, baking and cooking and sharing her goods with her neighbors in Reads Landing. She was extremely creative and wrote stories and poems for her great-grandchildren. She wrote a children’s story in 1965 that was dedicated to her great-nephews. She was considered by her family as “the handywoman of the house”. She would tackle almost any repair or maintenance that was needed.
Marjorie is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Fred Schjolberg, Wabasha, MN, Randi and Bill Evans, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; five grandchildren, Bill (Elisha Jacobs) Schjolberg, Kellogg, MN, John (Robyn Warmbo) Schjolberg, Plymouth, MN, David (Ericka) Evans, Kristen (Aaron) Gray and Julie (Paul) Ezard, all of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; nine great-grandchildren, Ingrid, Luka, Jack and Sadie Schjolberg, Kiera, Donny and Asia (Jon Konyi) Gray, Hannah and Wren Evans; great-great-granddaughter, Lyla Konyi; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, and her sister, Evelyn Moorhead.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 2 pm at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha with the Reverend Cheryl Nymann officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Wabasha. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30 until the time of service on the 16th.
