Mary Helen Griffith, 70, Wabasha

Mary Helen Griffith, age 70, of Wabasha, died Friday, September 15, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha where she resided the past four years. She was born January 8, 1947 in Wabasha, the only child of Theophilys and Helen (McDonough) Griffith. Mary was one of the longest living persons in the state of Minnesota with Down Syndrome. She grew up in Kellogg. Mary lived at Great River Homes in Wabasha for 36 years before moving to the care center. She was known for her love of Johnny Cash and his music.
She is survived by cousins, Donna McDonough Kieffer, Lake City, MN, Ann McDonough, Rochester, MN, Kathy McDonough, Lake Placid, FL, Terry (Jackie) McDonough, Maple Grove, MN, Jeb (Pam) Griffith, Caledonia, MN, Geri (Bill) Johnson, Anoka, MN and Gwen (Paul) Brutlag, Wendell, MN. She is also survived by her good friends from Wabasha, Paul and Marne Busch. The family extends their deepest thanks to staffs of Great River Homes and St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center for the loving care Mary received over these many years.
A graveside service will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery in Kellogg at 2pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Officiating will be the Reverend Father Gregory Parrott. She will be laid to rest beside her parents. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha is in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
