Pepin man dies Wednesday in crash on Hwy. 35

A 71-year-old Pepin man died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 35 between Nelson and Pepin last Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department, their office received a 911 call on Wednesday September 2, at approximately 3:54pm in reference to a semi truck vs. pickup truck crash on STH 35, approximately 3/4 of a mile north of STH 25 in the Township of Nelson. Preliminary investigation shows a northbound 2013 Ford pickup truck being driven by William Newcomb, 71, Pepin appeared to have crossed the center line, striking the tractor portion of the a 2004 Freightliner semi being driven by Robert Dose, 63, Lake City, which was southbound on Highway 35. Newcomb died as a result of injuries he sustained in the accident, being pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Dose received non-life threatening injuries.
Traffic on Hwy 35 between Pepin and Nelson was closed for several hours due to the crash.
The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Wisconsin State Patrol, Alma Ambulance, Pepin County Sheriff, Nelson Fire Department and the Buffalo County Coroner’s Office. The accident remains under investigation
