Ralph V. Heaser Sr., 93, Minneiska

 Ralph V. Heaser Sr., age 93, of Minneiska, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Sugar Loaf Senior Living in Winona where he had resided since August, 2015. He was born March 18, 1923 in Minneiska, one of twelve children born to William and Susan (Boltz) Heaser. Ralph was a graduate of McCahill High School in Lake City. He married Elizabeth Mogren October 26, 1942 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minneiska. Ralph then served in the U. S. Army from 1943 until his discharge in 1945. He was involved in the Normandy Invasion of WWII and was injured in the attack. For his service he received the American Theater Service Medal and the European-African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal. After his time in the service he returned to his wife in Minneiska. There they began their family.
 Ralph worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and then he was employed by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as a boat pilot. He retired in 1980. He enjoyed travelling throughout the United States with his wife, Betty, especially camping in the mountains of Wyoming. He also enjoyed trapping, fishing and hunting in his earlier years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minneiska and a long time member of the Masonic Lodge.
 He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Vince Leisen, Dubuque, IA; sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Darlene Heaser Jr., Kellogg, MN, Kenneth and Patricia Heaser, Minneiska, MN, Michael and Donna Heaser, Minneiska, MN; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, who died October 2, 2014, and all of his siblings, six sisters and five brothers.
 A funeral Mass was offered on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 2pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minneiska with the Reverend Father William Kulas officiating. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Minneiska. Casket bearers were Steven, Daniel and Anthony Leisen, Sue Ehlo, Christine Hicks and Holle Heaser. Military rites were accorded by the Wabasha American Legion Post #50, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 and the MNARNG Honor Guard. Family and friends called at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday from 2-6pm and one hour before the Mass on Sunday. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha was in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
