Richard J. Keller
Richard J. Keller, 86 of Wabasha, MN passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Gundersen – St. Elizabeth Health Care Center, Wabasha. Richard “Dick” Jacob was born April 10, 1938, in St. Paul, MN to Jacob and Rosetta (Wampach) Keller. He graduated from Wabasha High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 – 1959, spending part of his service in Japan. On July 8, 1967, he married Marilyn J. Christ in St. Paul and together they had three children: Richard, Karie and Theodore. During Richard’s early life he worked many careers such as equipment operator, farming and over-the-road truck driver. One thing he thoroughly enjoyed was taking his granddaughter Ashley over the road with him on her many breaks from school. Richard was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking many trips to Canada and Mazatlán, Mexico. He also loved a good afternoon in the kitchen baking a cake or delicious meal or being outside gardening. He enjoyed a good holiday get together and was always down for a good T-bone steak. Richard had deep love for his family and wanted nothing but the best for them. He had a special relationship with his son, Ted, who was his caregiver for many years. Richard also fostered a special relationship with the Herrada family of Wabasha. Gaining a son, a daughter and several grandchildren whom he loved and adored. Our family would like to thank the Herrada family for all of their special love and care given to Richard throughout the years. He loved the Lord and reading his Bible as his relationship with Jesus was very important to him. Dick is survived by his son Ted (Marissa) Keller; four granddaughters: Ashley (Cory) Henry; Sarah Keller; Jennifer (Adam) Sawyer; and Ashley (Kyle) Krause; 10 great grandchildren; and a brother Gordy Schurhammer. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn, daughter Karie Davidson; an infant son Richard; and a sister Darlene Julin. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Kellogg United Methodist Church, Kellogg, MN with Rev. Abigail Ozanne officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Wabasha, with military honors provided by Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post 4086 and Wabasha American Legion Post 50. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday January 6, 2025, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha and beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday at church. Services entrusted to Abbott Funeral Home & Crematory, Wabasha, MN.
