Robert S. ‘Schmity’ Schmit, 60, formerly of Wabasha

Robert S. “Schmity” Schmit, 60 of Hager City, WI and formerly of Wabasha, MN passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 at United Hospital, St. Paul, MN following a short illness.
Robert Steven was born April 28, 1958 in Wabasha to Leo and Norma (Peters) Schmit. He graduated from Wabasha-Kellogg High School in 1977. On December 4, 1982, he married Lori Evers in Wabasha.
Schmity was employed at Jacques/Mycogen/Remington Seed Company for many years. He was known for his cooking and canning, hunting, fishing, wood working, gardening, morel hunting and was part of Darrell’s Diggers from Prescott, WI.
He is survived by his wife Lori; siblings: Jim (Marsha), Villa Park, IL; Bill (Rose), Wabasha; Don, Wabasha; John “Buck”, Nelson, WI; Barb (Paul) Heins, Kellogg; Leo (Penny), Plainview; Joe (Sue), Wabasha; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Al; sister Shirley; and brother-in-law Jack Funke.
A celebration of Schmity’s life will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the Wabasha VFW Post 286.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
