Shirley Ann Raimer

Shirley Ann Raimer passed away peacefully, Monday morning, July 26, 2021, surrounded by loved ones at Gundersen St. Elizabeth Care Center. She was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on July 22, 1928. Her parents were Vera Mae Graner and Gilbert E. Graner. She was a graduate of Wabasha High School.
Shirley was married to Bernard Frederick Raimer Jr. on February 24, 1951. They had three children. Barney worked as a foreman at Big Jo Flour in Wabasha. They moved to Greensburg, Indiana in 1960 when Barney became general manager of a mill there. Shirley returned to Wabasha when Barney passed away in 1963. She went on to have her own careers as a dental hygienist and a member of the dietary department at the Wabasha Nursing Home.
Shirley was a very active member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher, a lifelong alter guild member, and worked at many rummage sales, fair stands, and church picnics. In the 1960s she was the first woman to ever serve on the vestry. In later years she organized a weekly Bible study group in her home. Shirley also volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader, and was an active member of Eastern Star. In later years she continued to serve the community as a volunteer with the Wabasha Area Food Shelf and served on the Food Shelf board.
Shirley is survived by her brother Wayne Graner; her three children, Steve Raimer, Debbie McCullough, and Julie Plank; her six grandchildren, Molly Bergacker, Jason Plank, Jenna McCullough, Mitchell Plank, Thomas McCullough, and Scott McCullough; and her three great-grandchildren, Liam Bergacker, Rory Bergacker, and Isabella Plank.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Bernard F. Raimer, Jr. and her parents Vera and Gilbert Graner.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2021 at Abbott Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin with a 9 a.m. visitation followed by a 10 a.m. service at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, Wabasha, Saturday, July 31, 2021. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Wabasha. Services provided by Abbott Funeral Home.
Family suggests memorials to Grace Memorial Episcopal Church or the Wabasha Area Food Shelf. The family also extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Gundersen St. Elizabeth Heathcare center for the professional, compassionate, and loving care that Shirley received.
