Terrence B. ‘Terry’ Schruth, 88, Pepin

 Terrence B. ‘Terry’ Schruth, age 88, a lifelong resident of Pepin, died Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Pepin Health and Rehab in Pepin. He was born November 29, 1927 in Pepin, the son of Glenn and Myrtle (Whaley) Schruth. He graduated from Pepin High School and then enlisted in the U. S. Navy serving from 1945 -1947. During his time of service to our country he served on the aircraft transport ship, the USS Philippine SEA in Antarctica with Admiral Richard E. Byrd.
After his discharge he returned to Pepin and studied at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He began his employment in the family business, Northern Wisconsin Manufacturing Company, after his study. He continued in the business and in 1966 he began buying the business from his father. He became principal owner in the mid- 1960’s. Terry retired in 1991. He married Anita Waddell March 5, 1949 at the United Methodist Church in Alma. Anita died in 2009.
 Terry was a member of the Pepin United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Pepin Lions Club and a member of the Pepin Sportsman’s Club. In his younger years he and his wife were involved with the Pepin Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating on his self-made steel hulled houseboat, the ‘Gypsy Queen’. The family had many years of enjoyment on the boat. He especially loved teaching his grandchildren how to fish at their cottage in Cumberland, WI.
 He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Charlotte Schruth, Pepin, WI, Mitch and Sherry Drysdale Schruth, Pepin, WI, Tim Schruth, Manitowoc, WI; seven grandchildren, Chris Schruth and Amber Talbert, Adam and Geoff Schruth and Lucas Schruth, Melanie Makes Cold Weather and Maegan Schruth; eight great-grandchildren, Dexter, Macy, Mya and Molly, Morgan, William and Jackson and Rachel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Schruth, one brother, Dennis Schruth, and his parents, Glenn and Myrtle Schruth.
 A memorial service was held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 11:00am at Pepin United Methodist Church with the Reverend Lisa Weaver officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin. Military rites were performed by the Bay City American Legion Post #357 and members of the State of Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program. Family and friends called at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Monday from 6-8pm and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to Pepin United Methodist Church, 504 2nd St., Pepin, WI 54759. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha was in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
