The Wabasha Area Food Share recently received a donation to its operations, accepting a $38,000 check donation from South Country Health Alliance on March 21 to cover the cost of new walk-in coolers. The organization's March Food Share Campaign was successful, raising over $88,000 in donations, with every contribution being matched to help meet fundraising goals.Through its partnership with the food bank, the organization can purchase nutritious food, including produce, dairy, and proteins, for an average of just 25 cents per pound, making financial donations particularly impactful. While the food share welcomes all forms of support, monetary contributions allow for maximum efficiency in serving the community's needs.The impact of these donations is profound because it costs less than $20 to provide a family with a week's worth of groceries. With children making up a third of those served and seniors representing another 13% of recipients, the Wabasha Area Food Share plays a vital role in addressing food insecurity across the community. Primarily serving the Wabasha and Kellogg area but welcoming all Minnesota residents, the Wabasha Area Food Share has continued to be at the forefront of providing food resources to community members. People use the Wabasha Food Share who live in Plainview and Lake City as well. In 2024, the Wabasha Area Food Share provided 309,914 pounds of food and household items to 1,710 individuals in 635 households in the community. The number of households served continues to increase on a yearly basis.
