William C. Bruegger, 97, Rochester

 William C. Bruegger, age 97, of Rochester, formerly of Plainview and Wabasha, died Friday, January 12, 2018 of pneumonia at Mayo Clinic Hospital-St. Marys Campus in Rochester. He lived at the Charter House in Rochester in retirement. He was born June 4, 1920 in Wabasha, the son of John and Mary (Kennebeck) Bruegger. He was a graduate of Wabasha High School and Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theater on Johnson Island from September, 1944 –September, 1945 during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in connection with operations against the enemy.
 He married Lucille Williams June 17, 1944 in St. Paul. Together they had one daughter, Judith. Both preceded him in death.
 Bill was in business partnership with his brother-in-law, Merlyn Williams. Together they started the Wabasha Implement Company in Wabasha in 1947 where they owned and operated the business and also later in Plainview. They also had the Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Wabasha. Bill took special pride in servicing the farmers in the Wabasha and Plainview areas with their implement and automobile purchases and their service needs. His guiding business principles were to be honest, keep the business on the “up and up” as a progressive operation and to contribute to the community. Bill was a past member of the Wabasha School Board in addition to other active concerns in the community.
 Bill is survived by sister-in-law, Sylvia Bruegger, Prior Lake, MN; ten nephews and nieces, Richard (Suzanne) Dunn,, Plymouth, MN, John (Margretta) Bruegger, Snowmass, CO, Bill Bruegger, Buffalo City, WI, Kathy Bruegger (Keith) Webb, Prior Lake, MN, Jim (Dianna) Bruegger, Alma, WI, George Russell, Tinley Park, IL, Bill (Marty) Russell, Danvers, IL, David Bruegger, Marietta, GA and Beth Bruegger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, daughter, Judith Canesi, sisters, Marie Dunn and Margaret Russell, brothers, John and George Bruegger, and nephew, Bob Bruegger.
 A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 2pm at the Wabasha United Church of Christ with the Reverend James Clausen officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Wabasha American Legion Post #50, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 and the MNARNG Honor Guard.
