ALVIN SKAHAUG

Alvin Joseph Skahaug, 91, of Strum, died Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Clearwater Care Center in Eau Claire.
Alvin was born January 13, 1925 to Ole and Selma (Olson) Skahaug at home in Buffalo County.
Alvin married Donna Mae Holte on June 21, 1949 in Whitehall.
After graduating from Eleva High School in 1943, Alvin served in the US Navy, during World War II. He was honorably discharged in April, 1946. When he returned from the service he worked as a farmhand until he joined the Farmer’s Union Coop in Strum.  He worked at the coop until 1962, then hired on as custodian for Eleva-Strum School Systems. Before long he was made Head Custodian. He always said his work was his enjoyment.  He loved the students and genuinely cared about them. Most have nicknames bestowed on them during his tenure.  He was a fun-loving, patient, kind and funny guy who loved to joke.  He retired in 1990.
Alvin was a big fan of Lawrence Welk and during his lifetime, enjoyed bowling, scratch off tickets and football pools. He liked to keep up on current events by watching the news and traveling with his wife, Donna.  Alvin always had a smile and a joke to share with everyone he met. He will be greatly missed.
Alvin is survived by his daughter, Kathryn (Lee Strohbusch) Sorensen of Watersmeet, MI; four sons, David (Laura Williams) Skahaug of Lake Hallie, Michael Skahaug of Strum, Larry Skahaug of Strum and Thomas Skahaug of Strum; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents Ole and Selma, wife, Donna, son Kevin, brothers, Howard and Selmar, and a sister Irene Skahaug.
