Wilmer Guenther

Wilmer Edwin Guenther, 77, of Strum, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at his home following a brief but aggressive battle with cancer.
Wilmer was born November 21, 1940 in the Town of Montana, Buffalo County, WI to Edwin and Jenny (Halverson) Guenther.
After graduating from Arcadia High School in 1959 he joined the National Guard and served eight years, including active duty service from 1961-1962 with the 32nd Division, training at Fort Hood, Washington. He attained the rank of Sergeant.
On May 4, 1963, he married Joan Muriel Olson in Strum and together they started their family.
Following his time in the service he worked as a carpenter. In 1971 Wilmer and Joan purchased Joan’s family dairy farm. In 1994 they sold the farm and he returned to work as a carpenter and built three of the family homes himself.
Wilmer loved to hunt, go camping, woodworking projects and spending time with his precious grandchildren. Along with his family, he was active with Eleva American Legion Post #459 and Carpenters Union-Local 1074 of Eau Claire.
Wilmer was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Wilmer is survived by his devoted wife Joan; children, Wayne Guenther, Richard (Rhonda) Guenther, Brian Guenther (Krysty Balderez) and Melissa (Scott) Anderson; grandchildren, Samantha Guenther and Daniel Harm Jr, Wayne Eric (Stacia) Guenther Jr, Lillian Anderson, Emmalee Anderson, Abigail Guenther and Edwin Guenther; step-grandchildren, James Anderson, Katelynn Anderson and Natasha Schlieve; great grandchildren, Brendan Harm and Hannah Dubord and Ava Williams. He is further survived by sisters, Edith Olson, Diane (Chuck) Thronson and Laurel Bollin; brothers-in-law, Ardell (Wyllis) Olson and James (Janet) Olson; sisters-in-law, Shirley Bloom, Arlene (James) Crawford and Hjordis Olson. One Uncle – Albert Guenther and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Jenny; Parents-in-law Melvin and Hazel Olson; daughter Tricia Guenther; brothers, Everett and Clifford Guenther; brothers-in-law, Maynard Olson, George Thompson, Norman Bollin, Floyd Olson, Harry Olson (died in infancy) and Vernon Bloom; sisters-in-law, Vivian (George) Thompson, Judith Olson (died in infancy).
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 109 Elm St., Strum, WI with Rev. Valerian Ahles officiating. Military rites by VFW Post 6550 and the Eleva American Legion Post #459 will follow the service. Private burial will take place at a later date.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church and again from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Tuesday.
Arrangements are being handled by Schiefelbein Funeral Home in Osseo.
