Darlene Barbara Castleberg
Darlene Barbara Castleberg went to her heavenly home on April 1, 2022 at the Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner, Wisconsin. She was born Darlene Walker on February 14, 1936 in Crookston, Minnesota where she grew up on the family farm and graduated from Crookston Central High School in 1954. She was the daughter of Helen Eva and Stanley Henry Walker, the second of three children. After graduation from high school, she worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, transferring to Madison, Wisconsin after a year.
She met her husband, Roger, through her brother as they had been in the Army together. Darlene married Roger on June 14, 1956 at the Ono Methodist Church near the Castleberg family farm in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin. After Roger completed his degree in pharmacy in 1958, the family moved to Pomona, California where they lived and raised their family of four children, Roger, Cheryl, Richard and Lori.
In 1978, they moved back to Wisconsin to take over the family farm and chicken and egg business. They ran the business for a few years and Roger continued to work in pharmacy for several years. Darlene and Roger were both active members of the Evangelical Free Church in Plum City, Wisconsin for many years. They also were active members of the Gideon Society. Due to ill health, they moved to Spooner, WI to live with their eldest son, Roger and family in 2017.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ronald, her son Richard and her grandson Dustin.
Survivors include her husband, Roger of 66 years, her daughter Cheryl Lund of Red Wing, MN, daughter Lori Castleberg of Red Wing, MN, son Roger Jr. Castleberg (Jemima)of Spooner, WI, her sister, Joyce Dudley of Cohasset, MN, six grandchildren, AJ, Elizabeth, Josiah, Mahalia, Elianna, Kevin and six great grandchildren, Dominic, Sebastian, Natalie, Isabel, Jaelyn and Bjorn.
Memorial Services will be held at 1 PM, Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Evangelical Free Church in Plum City, Wisconsin (501 1st Street). Memorial gifts should be directed to the Gideon Society or to the Evangelical Free Church in Plum City.
