GEORGE ANDREW BLACK SR.

George Andrew Black Sr., 85, of Arkansaw, WI died Friday, July 8, 2022 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born December 9, 1936 in Durand, WI; son of James and Gretchen (Rhode) Black.
He graduated from Arkansaw High School. Following high school, George joined the United States Air Force and served for twenty years.
On June 16, 1962, he married Frances Auger in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. They lived many different places around the world while George was in the military. In 1974, after retirement from the military, they moved to Cottage Grove, MN where he worked as a computer programmer for Control Data, Network Systems, and Cisco System Inc. In 2004, George and Frances moved to Arkansaw, WI.
George enjoyed baseball, gardening, cooking and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; four children, George Jr. (Carla) of Wetumpka, AL, Scott (Wannisa) of Burnsville, MN, Peter of Maple Grove, MN, Sarah (Jason Scherfenberg) of Burnsville, MN; daughter-in-law, Heidi; five grandchildren, George III, Jasmine, Ethan, Phoenix, Isla; great-granddaughter, Lily; sister, Cathy (Ronald) Hendrickson.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven; daughter, Maegan; brother, Jim; sisters, Donna and Marlene.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand, WI. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Military Honors will follow. Burial will be at a later date at Newport Cemetery in Newport, MN.
In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to the American Cancer Society.
