Joyce Marie (McDonough) Grochowski

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joyce Marie (McDonough) Grochowski, who left this world on 4/1/2026 surrounded by her loving family. Joyce bravely battled breast cancer and enjoyed three wonderful years after beating it in 2023, years she spent living life to the fullest—just as she always has. When the cancer returned, Joyce chose not to pursue further treatment. She spent the final weeks of her life in hospice, where she was kept comfortable and lovingly cared for by St. Croix Hospice and her family. Joyce was 81 years young at the time of her death.
Joyce was born in Plum City, Wisconsin, to Wayne and Gladys McDonough. She attended Plum City High School, where she played the French horn in the school band. Raised on the McDonough family farm, Joyce developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for home and family. After graduating, she attended beauty school in Eau Claire. Following her marriage to Bert Grochowski, she opened a beauty shop in their basement, where she worked for many years while raising her children.
Later in life, Joyce began a home-based travel business, a role she truly loved, helping others plan memorable adventures while enjoying travel herself with Bert. She eventually sold the business and went on to work for Covidien, assembling electrodes on the evening shift, where she remained until her retirement.
Joyce found joy in many things—her children and grandchildren above all else. She also loved gardening, watching birds, sewing, macramé, ceramics, quilting, and traveling. A devoted sports fan, she especially enjoyed cheering on the Badgers, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Milwaukee Brewers. Joyce was an active member of the Durand Optimist Club for many years, where she chaired “Breakfast with the Easter Bunny.” She also led the Operation Shoebox effort, crocheting and sending caps to soldiers serving in the military. Known for her warm smile and generous heart, Joyce was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Joyce is survived by her loving children, Tammy (Kenny) Lampro and Terry (Dette) Grochowski; her grandchildren, Megan (Spencer) Treu and Caleb Grochowski; and her great-grandchildren, Beckam and Brooklyn. She is also survived by her brothers, Slim (Wayne Jr.) and Tom (Lori) McDonough; and her sisters, Marlene (Bill) Baker and Sandy (Brad) Haycraft.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Grochowski, and her parents, Wayne and Gladys McDonough.
Joyce will be remembered for her unwavering love, kind spirit, and her ability to find beauty and joy in life’s simplest moments. Her legacy lives on through her family and friends, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. Rest in peace, Joyce. You have left this world in a better place than you found it, and you will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life honoring Joyce will be held at Molly’s on Main in Plum City on 4/18 from 12 – 4 pm. All who knew and loved Joyce are invited to attend and celebrate her remarkable life.
