Kathleen Ann (McRoberts) Awe
Kathleen (McRoberts) Awe, age 76, our family’s rock, passed away peacefully August 31, 2026, at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Kathy was known for her love of life, family and friends, and her passion for animals. As the oldest of 5 children, she was born February 11, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland to James and Ernestine McRoberts. The family later moved to Eau Galle, Wisconsin, where she helped on the family dairy farm when not in school. She graduated from Durand High School in 1968 and promptly moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin where she lived with her aunt and uncle for a time. She took a civil service position at Great Lakes Naval Base in Great Lakes, Illinois, where she met her dear friend, Renee Burleson who set her up on a blind date with a sailor who would later become her husband.
Kathy and Al eloped on Valentine’s Day in 1974 and were married for 51 years until Al’s death in 2025. They had one daughter, Jill, in 1976. They moved to wherever Al was stationed, from Great Lakes to San Diego, California, and back to Great Lakes. When Al retired from the Navy in 1985, the family moved to Durand, Wisconsin, where they remained until Jill graduated from high school in 1994. They then moved to Pepin, Wisconsin, where they remained until 2000-when Al decided shoveling snow off the roof of their home was not fun anymore. They retired to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and remained there until their deaths.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill (Josh Grimm) Stanislawski of Duluth, Minnesota; stepdaughter, Peggy (Tom) Mushel of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; her step-granddaughter, Samantha Johnson, and beloved cats Lilli and Mimi. She is also survived by her brother, Bob (Sherrie) McRoberts; sisters, Betty McRoberts and Marie “Charlie” (Dennis) Bauer, and brother-in-law Steve Maddock. She also leaves her nephew and godson Brian Bauer, and other cherished nephews and cousins. Also touching Kathy’s life were her dear friends near and far.
Kathy loved to cook, organize social events, and always made sure that no one was ever alone on a holiday. Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Milford (Al) Awe; son-in-law, Adrian Stanislawski; parents, James and Ernestine McRoberts; in-laws, Lester and Genevie Awe; sister-in-law, Susan Awe; brother, James McRoberts, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at FRENCH - Westside from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A short service will be held, and a light lunch will be served during this time.
