Pepin Board of Education hears year-end updates

    In a regular meeting held April 25, the Pepin Area Schools Board of Education heard reports on the end of the year.
    A special reorganizational meeting was held prior to the regular meeting.
    Newly re-elected Board members Tim Stajkowski and Debra Larson recited their Oaths of Office.
    A unanimous ballot was cast for all current elected members to remain in their seats. The motion passed unanimously.
    Betty Glander and Ardyce Johnson were appointed to the Policy Committee, Gordon Riesgraf and Tim Stajkowski to the Buildings and Grounds Committee, Debra Larson and Betty Glander to the Community School Partnership Committee, and Debra Larson and Tim Stajkowski to the Personnel (Negotiations) Committee.
    Future meeting dates were set for the 2016-17 school year.
    The Courier-Wedge was approved as the official newspaper, and Bank of Alma, Hiawatha National Bank, and Wisconsin State Investment Pool were approved as official depositories for Pepin Area Schools.
    The minutes of the March 21 regular meeting were approved.
    District Administrator Bruce Quinton recognized Logan Carroll, who was named a WIAA Scholar Athlete. He is the second student in school history to receive the honor. The last student was Mike Olson in 1987.
    Quinton also recognized Lori Tulip’s efforts in the post-prom activities, to provide students with a safe post-prom alternative.
    Quinton recognized students who qualified for state solo and ensemble, including Elizabeth Wheeler, Hanna Peters, Rosemary Middlebrook, Tommy Wheeler, Lulu Vaicius, Laurie Wheeler, Lauren Tulip, Isabelle Miller, Karis Walk, Erin Seifert, Lacy Quinton, Carson Raethke, Christopher Bocksell, Xavier Bergman, Trey Johnson, Jacob Riesgraf, Ethan Steele, and Michael Sandstrom.
    High School lead teacher John Gayan updated the Board on what’s going on in the high school, including state testing, Earth Day cleanup activities, pops concert, and awards night.
    Stajkowski updated the board on Building and Grounds Committee discussion, including teacher maintenance request reviews, hallway painting bids, athletic field bathroom remodel, and four wheeler replacement.
    Kacey Moline presented a written plan for Junior Prom May 7. Prom will be held at Villa Bellezza. The Board approved.
     Quinton presented a written draft of the District’s three-year technology plan, developed by himself and Gayan. The Board approved.
    Quinton presented a bid from L and L Woodcraft forwarded by the Buildings and Grounds Committee for painting. The Board approved.
    Quinton next presented a bid from Fetzer Construction, forwarded by the Buildings and Grounds Committee, for the bathroom remodel project. The Board approved.
    Quinton also presented a bid from Plum City Service for a four wheeler. The Board approved.
    Quinton presented a resignation from Nick Peters as the District’s K-12 vocal and instrumental director. He stated Peters has done an outstanding job, and wished him well at Cadott High School. The Board approved.
    Quinton notified the Board that he will be at the Spring Education Conference May 4-6 in Appleton.
    Quinton also reminded the Board that graduation will be Saturday, May 21 at 1 p.m.
    The Board approved vouchers totaling $220,212.40.
    The next regular Board meeting will be held May 23 at 8 p.m.
