What is your law enforcement experience?

Ridgeway: I have 14 years experience. I started as a part-time officer in Pepin, then was hired full-time at the Trempealeau Police Department. In less than three years, I was promoted to acting chief, and was hired as chief eight months later. I was hired in the City of Durand in 2011 as police chief, giving me a total of 12 years experience as chief.

Wener: I have 23 years experience. I worked part-time with the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department, and Arcadia Police Department. I've been a deputy sheriff in Pepin County for 19 years.

Where did you earn your degree?

Ridgeway: I have an associates degree from Western Technical College.

Wener: I have an associates degree from CVTC.

Do you have any special training or certifications?

Ridgeway: I received a certificate of completion from UW-Stevens Point for first-line supervisor training. I'm a Wisconsin Department of Justice Certified Instructor in firearms, tactical response, and department policy. I'm also a certified instructor for taser, police shotgun, patrol rifle, and active shooter response.

Wener: I've been the Pierce/Pepin Emergency Response Team leader since 2009, and I was a DARE officer for seven years.

Why did you choose a career in law enforcement?

Ridgeway: Growing up in Pepin I saw deputies doing their work, and I appreciated what they did for the community, and for my life. I thought law enforcement would be an honorable career.

Wener: My uncle was the chief of police in Arcadia, and I was close with him growing up. We still are. He retired from 32 years of service two years ago.

Where are you from?

Ridgeway: I grew up in Pepin, but I now live in Durand.

Wener: I have lived in Pepin for 19 years.

What are your goals, if elected as sheriff?

Ridgeway: I hope to use my grant writing experience to the benefit of the department. I would also like to concentrate more on investigations of drug, elderly abuse, and financial crime cases.I hope to be able to serve all the citizens of Pepin County, and continue the fine tradition Sheriff Andrews has set.

Wener: My main goal is to continue to offer high-quality protection and service to keep Pepin County residents safe and secure. I also hope to continue the relationship with the Durand and Pepin Police Departments, fire and ambulance services, and first responders. I hope to continue to serve the community and offer service to the public.
