Annual Mondovi Ice Fishing Contest to take place this Sunday on Mirror Lake
Local fishing enthusiasts are gearing up to hit the ice on Mirror Lake this Sunday, Feb. 8, when the Mondovi Conservation Club will host its annual ice fishing contest from 12 - 3:30 p.m.
Cash and prizes amounting to approximately $17,500 will be awarded throughout the afternoon, including grand prizes and fishing prizes for biggest trout, sunfish and crappie.
The top grand prize is $1,250 in cash while other prizes include various hunting rifles, hunting and fishing gear, and gift certificates to Mondovi’s Gunderson Foods and Ryan’s Sport Shop in Durand.
A $25 cash prize will also be awarded for the 25th, 50th and 75th fish caught and weighed during the contest.
Over $600 in prizes will be given away during the airplane drop—popular with children 12 and under—set for approximately 1 p.m. Numbered ping-pong balls will be dropped onto the lake’s surface for kids to collect and turn in for prizes.
A heated tent with games will be available as well as food and beverages.
Tickets are available for a $2 donation. The proceeds from the contest benefit the Mondovi Conservation Club’s educational programs throughout the year.
