Body of Alma man pulled from Mississippi River

 

A man who was found floating in the Mississippi River deceased near Alma on Monday morning, Feb. 9, has been positively identified.

According to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department, the body found floating in the river within the Alma city limits is that of 62-year-old Leo Butler of Alma.

Police received a call regarding the man floating in the water just after 10:30 a.m. that morning. Upon arrival, officers were able to pull the body from the water and evaluated him for life-saving measures. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death is not yet known at this time, but the sheriff’s department is continuing its investigation.

Also assisting at the scene were the Alma Ambulance, Alma Police Department, Alma Fire Department, Buffalo County Coroner’s Office and the Burlington Northern safety crew.
