Eleva-Strum’s Jenna Booth is the Cardinals’ lone state qualifier this year after the sophomore ran to a fourth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 48.05 at the Bangor Sectional on Friday, May 29.

Booth will run her event at the WIAA Division 3 State Meet at UW-La Crosse this Friday, June 5.

Booth also competed in the 100 meter hurdles at Sectionals, finishing seventh in 17.25 seconds.

Also competing at Sectionals was sophomore Quinn Olson in the 200 meter dash. He placed sixth with a time of 23.73. The boys 4x100 team of Jed Lorenz, Josh Marino, Jimmy North and Olson also competed at Sectionals in the boys 4x100 meter relay, placing sixth in 46.02.

Also last week, the E-S track team headed to Whitehall for its Division 3 regional meet on Wednesday, May 27, after the originally-scheduled meet was rained out the previous day.

As a team the Cardinal girls placed ninth with 17 points while the boys were 10th with 35.5 points.

At Regionals, several Cardinals recorded top four finishes to keep their seasons going.

Booth led the E-S girls highlights with a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.90 and a third place finish in the 300 meter hurdles in 49.71 to qualify for Sectionals in both.

On the boys’ side, the 4x200 meter relay team of Lorenz, North, Olson and Marino took fifth in a very close race, missing out on a berth to Sectionals by less than a second with a time of 1:37.62.

But the same relay team bounced back with a second place finish in the 4x100 meter relay, clocking a time of 46.23 seconds to earn the right to compete at Sectionals in that event.

Individually, Olson also qualified to run the 200 meter dash at Sectionals with a third place finish in 24.14 seconds.

Brandon Gunderson was just edged out of Sectionals in the 300 meter hurdles. He finished fifth with a time of 45.88 seconds. Gunderson also took eighth in the 110 meter hurdles in 19.97 seconds, just behind teammate Grant Austin in 19.81.

Isaiah Loewenhagen and Dustyn Topper also scored points for E-S. Loewenhagen was sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.83 while Topper took seventh in the 400 with a time of 57.87.
