Lady Buffs’ season comes to tough end

As WIAA girls basketball postseason play kicked off last week, the Lady Buffs made the long trip to Stanley-Boyd on Tuesday, Feb. 23, for their regional quarterfinal game. The Lady Buffs had only one thing in their minds; how awesome would it be to win on someone else’s home court?

Starting off the first half both teams were neck and neck with each other and fought tooth and nail. When Stanley-Boyd would score a few points, the Lady Buffs were right behind them scoring more.  The first half ended with a close score, 23-21, with Stanley-Boyd holding the slim lead.

After coming out of the locker room, the girls knew that Stanley-Boyd got a taste of what the Lady Buffs could do, but the host squad wasn’t about to be out-done. The Orioles nearly doubled up their first half scoring effort, putting up 41 points after the break to hand the Lady Buffs the 64-44 loss, effectively ending Mondovi’s season.

Haley Poeschel led Mondovi with 17 points while Emily Flaskrud added seven.

Leading scorers for Stanley-Boyd were Jamie Reit with 26 points and Jenna Hoffstatter with 23.

The Mondovi girls close out the 2015-16 season with a 3-20 overall record.
