Lady Buffs fall to Holmen Vikings
by Bailey Van Den Heuvel, student writer
On the girls’ final day of school before break, they made a long trip to make up their previously-canceled non-conference game against Division 2 Holmen on Monday, Dec. 22.
Holmen kicked off the game with an intensity that never relented the whole game. After just one quarter, Holmen was up 24-7. By halftime the score was 33-20, Holmen.
The Lady Buffaloes found a spark in the second half, scoring 17 more points, but that was not enough to stop the Vikings. Holmen managed to fight through the Buffaloes’ tough defense and won the game 67-37.
Makenzy Christopherson led the team with 13 points, followed by Amanda Rud with eight points and Mattie Mahlum with seven.
The Buffaloes competed in their annual tournament against Bloomer, Fall Creek, and Durand on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29 and 30, in Bloomer. The boys basketball team competed in their holiday tournament in La Crosse Monday and Tuesday as well. Even though it’s winter break for these players, they’re still very busy with their athletics!
