Last week was a busy one for the Gilmanton girls basketball team as the squad traveled to Cornell for a non-conference game and to Wabasha-Kellogg for their holiday tournament. The Lady Panthers hung tough, but were turned back in all three of their games last week, leaving Gilmanton still on the hunt for its first win.

On Tuesday, Dec. 23, the Lady Panthers traveled to Cornell.  At the end of the first quarter the Panthers were only down by one. Coming out for the second quarter the Lady Chiefs turned up their game, going into halftime with a 29-9 lead.  In the second half, the Lady Panthers got out-hustled and no shots would fall, resulting in a rough 62-16 loss.

Morgan Bork lead the team with five points followed by Lexie Severson with four, Rachel Hovey with three, and Jordyn Bloom and Makayla Saul both pitched in two points apiece.

On Friday, Dec. 26, the Lady Panthers traveled to Wabasha for the first day of the Holiday Tournament, facing off with the Wabasha-Kellogg Falcons. In the first half, both teams came out with intensity and were ready to play, but the Falcons outscored the Panthers 45-24. The second half was slow for the Panthers. With a couple girls missing, the Lady Panthers just could not pull through, leading to the 76-35 defeat.

Severson and Bryanna Reidt both led the team with nine, Hovey and Bloom chipped in with six points apiece, Makayla Saul added three points, and Johanna Wulff had two points.

The Lady Panthers returned to Wabasha on Saturday ready to play Christian Life.  The girls went in with a positive attitude that they could get a victory. Both teams came out strong, but Christian Life went into halftime with a 35-18 lead.

Going in to the second half, the Lady Panthers knew they could not let the lead that Christian Life had built bother them.  The Panthers came out strong in the second half, outscoring their opponent, but not enough to get the win, falling 53-40.

Reidt led the team with 11, Severson had eight, Bork had seven, and Branger, Hovey, and Bloom all had four points while and Gabrielle Saul pitched in two points.

The Lady Panthers took this week off and will resume Dairyland Conference play on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Melrose-Mindoro. The girls will also travel to Blair-Taylor on Friday, Jan. 9.
