The Mondovi boys basketball team was able to pull out a 56-46 win against the Glenwood City Hilltoppers at home on Thursday, Jan. 29, ending the month of January on a high note.

The Buffaloes were able to go into halftime with a seven-point lead, 29-22. But, the Hilltoppers came out in the third quarter ready to play, scoring 15 points and decreasing Mondovi’s lead to four. In the fourth quarter the Buffaloes were able to put up 15 points and keep the Hilltoppers to a slim nine points total, leaving the Buffaloes with another Dunn-St. Croix Conference win and a record of 6-2 in league play.

The leading scorer of the Glenwood City game was Greg Poeschel, who shot 50 percent from the field for a total of 17 points for the Buffaloes. Close behind was Hayden Ford with 15 points, and Blake Purdy chipped in with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Jake Ede and Ford also contributed on the glass with five boards apiece for the Buffaloes.

Mondovi has a long week ahead with three games on the schedule. On Monday, Feb. 2, the Buffaloes faced off with the Gilmanton Panthers, then took on the Eleva-Strum Cardinals Tuesday evening for a pair of non-conference games. On Friday, Feb. 6, Mondovi will return to conference play, facing the Elmwood/Plum City Wolves.  Mondovi is currently tied for second in the conference with Elmwood/Plum City, so it should make for an interesting Friday night match-up.
