Mondovi boys triumph over Cardinals, taken down by Vikings

Last week the Mondovi boys basketball team traveled to Eleva-Strum and Colfax for some tough and well-fought games.
On Tuesday, Jan. 26, the Buffaloes took on the Cardinals for a non-conference game at Eleva-Strum. With a very fast-paced set, each team was down and back on the court constantly. By the end of the first half, Mondovi led 25-20. The Buffaloes refused to give up the lead, successfully leading the majority of the game. The final score was 62-54.
High scorers for the Buffaloes were Blake Purdy with 25 points and Greg Poeschel with 19. Branden Becker led in rebounds, collecting 10.
High scorers for the Cardinals were Mathew Higley and Drew Severson, both with 11 points.
The boys also had a Dunn-St. Croix Conference game on Thursday, Jan. 28, at Colfax. Though the game was close, by the end of the first half the Vikings had 22 points to the Buffaloes’ 17. The Vikings maintained and increased their lead in the second half, leading to a final score of 52-41 in the Vikings’ favor.
Purdy once again led Mondovi with 15 points followed by Poeschel with 10.
Colfax’s leading scorer was Kedar Davis with 16 points.
Mondovi was to have two home games this week. On Tuesday, Feb. 2, the Buffaloes were scheduled to face Elk Mound. A Saturday doubleheader with the girls’ team against Spring Valley will also take place Feb. 6.
