Mondovi wrestlers compete at BRC-DSC Challenge

The Mondovi wrestling team participated in the combined Big Rivers Conference and Dunn-St. Croix Conference Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 6, where the Buffaloes placed 11th as a team.

Individually, 126-pounder Nick Pelke placed fourth, Lee Becker placed fifth at 152 pounds, 132-pounder Austin Fedie and 170-pound Bryce Johnson both placed sixth, and Dillon Larson placed seventh at 145 pounds.

“This tournament was a real meat-grinder,” commented Mondovi head coach Randy Pongratz. “There were six teams participating who are ranked in the state including the number one team in Division 1, Hudson. There were also fifty-two state-ranked wrestlers who competed in the tournament. Our guys wrestled tough and I am proud of them.”

Lee Becker has been named “Wrestler of the Week.”

“Lee really battled through some adversity on Saturday,” stated Pongratz. “He placed fifth individually and he had to really work for it.”

The wrestlers will now travel to Blair-Taylor for regional tournament action on Saturday, Feb. 13.  Wrestling begins at 10 a.m.
