Mondovi wrestlers host Hilltoppers, compete in invite
On Thursday, Jan. 14, the Mondovi wrestling team hosted Glenwood City for a Dunn-St. Croix Conference dual. Mondovi lost by a score of 60-16.
Winning matches for Mondovi were: 132—Austin Fedie, 145—Dillon Larson and 195—Ben Andress.
The Mondovi wrestlers then traveled to Hillsboro for an 11-team invitational on Saturday, Jan. 16, placing eighth as a team. 126-pounder Nick Pelke and 132-pounder Austin Fedie both placed second in their respective weight classes. Placing fourth was 145-pounder Dillon Larson. 170-pound Bryce Johnson and 195-pound Ben Andress both placed sixth.
“All of our guys had a good week!” commented head coach Randy Pongratz. “Hopefully we can get healthy soon so we can put more guys on the mat.”
Fedie has been named Wrestler of the Week.
“Austin had a great week,” Pongratz said. “He was up 6-3 when he pinned Marcus Ullom from Glenwood City. Ullom is currently ranked ninth in the state. In the finals on Saturday he lost by one point to sixth-ranked Ryan Berg from Spring Valley. He is really hitting mid-season form. If he keeps up the good work another trip to State may be in his future.”
The Mondovi wrestlers host the fifth-ranked Boyceville Bulldogs on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. They then travel to Durand for a five-team dual meet tournament on Friday, Jan. 22, at 4 p.m.
