A Mondovi 11-year-old was recently chosen to compete with the best hockey players in Wisconsin.

Peyton Platter traveled with a Team Wisconsin squad, consisting of the top 11-year-old hockey players in the state, to the Northern Exposure Tournament in Duluth, Minn., held July 17-19. While there, Platter and his teammates faced off with teams from all over the U.S. and Canada in their lone Team Wisconsin event.

Platter, who plays at the forward position, was selected to be a part of Team Wisconsin earlier this spring.

“I was very excited to be selected to Team Wisconsin,” commented Platter. “I have been able to meet a lot of new friends and really good hockey players.”

The process started with district tryouts in March when a team was hand-picked to compete in the Kohlman Cup tournament against youths from five other districts from around the state. Following the Kohlman Cup, held in Fond du Lac in April, Platter was one of 12 forwards selected to play for Team Wisconsin, which consisted of 20 players total.

Two other players from Eau Claire joined Platter in representing their home district on Team Wisconsin.

Platter has been playing hockey since he was four years old.

“I enjoy traveling all over playing with my best friends,” he said of the sport. “I also enjoy playing on my hockey rink in my backyard.”

During hockey season, Platter plays for the Eau Claire Mustangs. He also competes in AAA hockey during the summer on two teams—the Ice Clams of Rochester, Minn., and the Northwest Bucks Elite.
