On Tuesday, March 1, the Gilmanton boys basketball team traveled to Royall for a clash of the Panthers in the regional quarterfinals.
Royall drew the No. 5 seed and Gilmanton came in ranked No. 12, but the Panthers weren’t about to be intimidated by those numbers.
The game started out intense just like both teams expected. Both teams came out with a lot of defensive pressure, resulting in a score of 17-15 at halftime, Gilmanton on top.
In the second half Gilmanton had a slow start and dug themselves a hole. With 6:47 left in the second half Gilmanton found itself behind, 42-30. But a 12-point deficit would not deter the Panthers as they fought back and tied the game, resulting in overtime.
Both teams battled it out in the extra period and it came down to the last seconds, but Gilmanton could not prevail. Royall would steal the victory with a score of 53-50, ending the Panthers season.
Nick Urness led the team in scoring all year at 17.6 points per game, he also led the team in rebounds with 8.3 rebounds per game while Derric Gray led the team in assists with 3.9 assists per game.
Gilmanton closes out the 2015-16 season at 7-14 overall.
