The Eleva-Strum girls basketball team took two tough losses against Large Dairyland opponents last week, one at Melrose-Mindoro and the other at home vs. Blair-Taylor.

The Lady Cards traveled to Melrose-Mindoro on Tuesday, Jan. 26. The Mustangs started off with the lead in the first half, scoring 25 points to the Cardinals’ 14. The second half of the game wasn’t much different, allowing the Mustangs to extend their lead to hand E-S the 51-31 loss.

The three top scorers for the night were Abby Palkowski with seven points and Mackenzie Hutchins and Aubree Lasher with six points apiece. The girls had a total of 56 rebounds in the game.

Following the defeat at Melrose, the girls played against the Blair-Taylor Wildcats on Friday, Jan. 29, at home. Blair-Taylor took a commanding lead in the first half, scoring 37 points to Eleva-Strum’s 15. The Cardinals recovered in the second half to outscore the Wildcats, 25-20, but it wasn’t quite enough to beat Blair-Taylor. The final score of the game was 57-40, handing E-S another tough loss.

The leading scorers for the night were Josie Olson with nine points, Greta Monson with six points, and Taylor Everson with six points. Monson had five assists for the night, Jenna Booth had three and both Taylor and Tatum Everson had two assists each.

The girls played against Chippewa Falls McDonell at home on Monday, Feb. 1. The girls are also slated to travel to face Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Saturday, Feb. 9.
